In terms of overcoming work-related obstacles, my biggest challenge within a large company is the pace. Things typically move more slowly than I would like. However, what I realized is that the key ingredient to moving quickly and achieving quality results is dependent on personal relationships. Company direction and management decisions can only take you so far, but human-to-human interaction, team spirit and the ability to bring a team together, is what helps me overcome challenges.
There’s a shift from wellness programs to not-so-wellness programs. Wellness programs, which were typically paid for by large employers out of their benefits budget, were availability of services to help typically the 30- to 40 somethings who participate in those types of programs. The value proposition of those was largely based on absenteeism and a lot of squishy metrics that really didn’t resonate from an ROI perspective.
These organizations are now focusing on real programs that are evidence-based that include and require often real caregivers in the process. Those caregivers are in different roles these days, everything from coaches to therapists to RNs to RDs to actual doctors. Using different combinations of those and doing it in a scaled way drives better behavioral change than you could ever do with self-service apps.
Zillion is powering those next-generation digital products by combining those video communications apps with digital workforce scheduling with content management and servicing and data analytics. Bringing those four together to build compelling programs across those various areas I went through earlier.
Patient engagement is seen by many as key to successfully optimizing the healthcare industry, providing quality care, and improving outcomes at a reduced cost. Telemedicine offers great opportunities for physicians to connect with patients in cost-effective, efficient, and engaging ways, as Health IT Outcomes pointed out. Interactive health apps help patients improve outcomes and monitor chronic conditions.
Now, Zillion Group has announced the release of its digital health technology platform which specializes in live video consultation that converts content, people-based services, and programs into scalable digital products and enables companies to realize the true potential of mobile engagement and empower consumers to take control of their health.
A technology company that wants to change how patient engagement platforms are structured is making its digital health platform widely available to payers, self-employed insurers and specialist physician practices. Bill Van Wyck, the founder of Zillion, also serves as president and CIO. In a phone interview, he talked about its first collaboration partner, UnitedHealthGroup and the platform that powers the payer’s weight-loss program, Real Appeal, launched in November last year.
The company claims its software platform can provide live, video conferencing software, content delivery, and interactive messaging. It can also support scheduling for health literacy content, alerts and reminders, workforce management, data analytics and goal tracking, according to a company statement.
Bill Van Wyck, president and chief innovation officer for Norwalk, Conn.-based Zillion, founded the company in 2010, after spending years in industries like shipping, logistics and e-commerce and finding that, in many ways, healthcare is just another messed up vertical with a variety of pain points in need of solutions.
“Healthcare is not unlike other verticals in that it’s a big industry with problems,” Mr. Van Wyck says. “And there are players trying to solve those problems using technology who often end up trying to be technology companies at the same time. I wanted to bring value to healthcare by using a technology and software perspective to solve industry problems.”
